- Glass Mason jars
- Grapeseed, sweet almond or jojoba oil
- Beeswax or for a vegan product, candelilla plant-based wax
- Dried roots, herbs and flowers for infused oils, such as peppermint, comfrey, chamomile, lavender, ginger, rosemary, echinacea, skullcap, rose petals with green tea, hibiscus, whole jasmine flowers, calendula petals, astragalus root, dried orange peel, rosehips, elderflower, valerian root, cayenne powder, etc.
- Essential oils like lavender, rose geranium, Ylang Ylang, jasmine, eucalyptus, sandalwood, peppermint, lemon, sweet orange, frankincense, tea tree or this luscious Peace, Love & Flowers blend

DIY herbal balm steps

You should notice a visible change after a month, with the oil deepening in color as it becomes enriched by the nutrients, natural pigments and phytochemicals in the herbs.
If you prefer a faster process in making your herb-infused oil so you have time to prepare holiday gifts this month, you will fare better with the gentle heat method. Simply place dried herbs in a double boiler or slow cooker, cover with oil and simmer very gently for 30-90 minutes.
Herbal balms with essential oils
When you are ready to “harvest” your infused oil, allow it to cool and strain it carefully through a piece of cheesecloth, a nut milk bag or other strainer into a double boiler or heat-safe glass jar set into a saucepan of simmering water. Add your wax of choice, stir just until melted and remove the mixture from heat. Blend in the essential oils you have chosen and carefully fill your balm tins or whatever receptacles you plan to use.
