Will it leave my hair waxy?
This is where picking a true shampoo bar, not a soap bar masquerading as shampoo, is important. Soap can contain lye, wax or paraffin, for example, which is not good for hair and easily coats hair strands and is hard to rinse out. To be sure you are picking a quality shampoo bar, look at the ingredients and pick ones that use familiar oils and butters like argan oil, cacao seed butter,\ and coconut oil.

Will it dry out my hair?
This is where it’s important to choose ingredients that are gentle on hair and pH balanced to match your hair and scalp’s pH. Avoid bars that include sulfates, SLS, SLES and sodium cocoate. These cleansers are all too harsh for hair and will leave your cuticle (the outer layer of hair) lifted after cleansing. This allows moisture to escape and color to be altered or lost.
Another important consideration for ensuring healthy hydrated hair is the pH level. Our hair and skin’s pH is slightly acidic, and conventional shampoos as well as traditional soap bars are more alkaline. You want a shampoo bar that is around 5.5 pH so that it perfectly matches your hair’s natural acidity. This will also help ensure the shampoo does not disrupt your natural pH, which can also lead to moisture loss and scalp conditioners like dry, itchy or flaky scalp.

Focusing on the lengths and ends, work the conditioner bar side to side or from mid-length to ends gently working the bar into your hair. The conditioner bar will mix with the water in your hair and turn into a cream so having super wet hair helps and use more water from the shower as needed.

Use your fingers or a comb to comb through so that the product is evenly distributed. This is also a great opportunity to detangle. Allow the conditioner to sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
