Castile soap is an all-natural, vegetable-based soap that was originally produced in the Mediterranean area. In fact, it is named after the Castile region of northwestern Spain. The popular cleaning product was traditionally made with pure olive oil; however, today’s soaps often contain oils such as coconut, castor, hemp, argan, avocado, almond and walnut. What you won’t find in Castile soap: unnecessary and unwelcome preservatives, detergents or foaming agents!
Available in bar and liquid form, Castile soap is non-toxic, biodegradable and comes in a variety of fabulous fragrances, ranging from cheerful citrus and soothing lavender to powerful peppermint. It cleans (and lathers!) just like regular soap and contains a compound called oleuropein, which has strong antibacterial properties.
Castile soap is not only environmentally friendly and exceptionally hydrating (unlike synthetic soaps, it maintains its glycerin content), it’s also incredibly versatile. In addition to washing your hair, skin, pets and produce, you can use it to replace many cleaning products in your home.
