Life is hectic, and the list of things you have to do sometimes ends up longer at the end of the day than when you started. Sometimes we need a moment to breathe. I could say we need a moment to relax, but I know for a lot of you the idea of relaxing is comical, so let’s just go with taking a moment to breathe, shall we?
There are a few things that I find help me be in that moment and decompress a bit. A cup of tea, a soak in the tub after the kids go to bed, elements of aromatherapy and having a creative outlet are vital to my sanity. But, you know, there isn’t a lot of time in the day for that kind of stuff so I tend to combine my efforts. Here is a super-simple way to make an aromatherapy eye pillow that will soothe your senses and fulfill that creative side of you, too!
DIY Aromatherapy Eye Pillow
What you’ll need:
8x6 inch piece of fabric of your choice (try upcycling a piece of clothing or sheets)
3/4 cup whole flax seeds
1/8 cup dried lavender
1/8 cup dried chamomile flowers
What to do:
- Fold the fabric in half so that the 8" sides meet (make sure your fabric is inside out at this point, that’s how you get your seams inside).
- Using your sewing machine, sew closed one short side and the long edge. You now have a pocket of sorts.
- Turn your fabric right side out and fill with the mixture of flax seeds, lavender and chamomile. Your pillow should be loosely filled. If you have too much filling, reduce the filling a few scoops at a time until you have the desired fullness.
- Once you are satisfied, fold the remaining edge of fabric inside of itself and sew a tight seam to close off the opening. That’s it! Now you have a wonderful, eco-friendly way to treat yourself the next time you can steal a moment to breathe.
