In my never-ending quest to find out exactly how long I can go without having to wash my hair, I decided I’d take a run at dry shampoos. We all know how my no-shampoo experiment went (read: not well), so I thought maybe there was some kind of in between. Over the course of a couple weeks I tested out three different dry shampoos. Here’s the breakdown of what worked, what didn’t, what was good, bad and ugly.
Giovanni Powder Power Dry Shampoo
This is billed as a two-in-one product – both a dry shampoo and a volumizer. I will say, as a volumizer, it works pretty well. I especially liked the pointed tip which let me put the powder exactly where I wanted it. As a dry shampoo it was fine, it reduced the oil a bit. It’s a good product if you’re one day, maybe two, post shampoo, but I wouldn’t go longer. A big plus for this product is that it’s free of parabens, lauryl and laureth sulfates, and dyes.
Bamboo Style Cleanse Extend
This was my favorite of the three. Also free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and dyes, this dry shampoo is a spray. While the delivery is less precise, the overall appearance of my hair was smoother and cleaner. I will say that for me, my hair didn’t feel cleaner to the touch with any of the dry shampoos, but with this one I didn’t look like I was doing any kind of no-shampoo experiment. I was able to go to a third post shampoo day with this one! Any more would have been pushing the limits of my hair, though.
Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo
Okay, sorry Bombshells, this was my least favorite. The ingredients were fine, no complaints there. Again, I prefer the spray to the powder, but this one didn’t seem to dull that shine for me the way the other one did. While I’d declare this dry shampoo fine for one day post shampoo, it doesn’t have the longevity of the other.
