Vitacost.com cannot be held responsible for any laws or regulations that result in Customs applying additional costs to your order, including taxes, duties or other customs fees, or any related product seizure or delivery delays. Any order containing restricted items that is seized, damaged or destroyed by customs due to import regulations may not be eligible for refund under our Customs Seizure policy. Vitacost.com also reserves the right to limit quantity or restrict items to any country for any reason without notice.
Tax Identification Requirement:
The Brazilian Internal Revenue Service will require, as of January 1, 2020, that all international orders and shipments have the identification of the CPF/CNPJ/Recipient Passport Number to have its customs clearance started. The lack of such information may result in a ban on the entry of the order and its return or destruction, in cases where the return is not possible.
In an effort to mitigate the impacts of this requirement and minimize the number of shipments returned, Empresa Brasileira de Correios has developed an electronic tool, through the tracking portal "My Imports", which allows importers in Brazil to provide their tax identification number in advance, before the shipment arrives in Brazil. For more information, please visit the Minhas Importações portal.
The Tax ID number is known as CPF (format: 000.000.000-00) for natural persons and CNPJ (format: 00.000.000/0000-00) for legal entities.
In order to mitigate the impacts of this requirement and minimize the number of items returned or destroyed, we have updated our process in which so Vitacost will now directly collect this number starting on June 6, 2024 during the checkout process via a field that must be completed along with the address entry . Entry of the Tax ID number will need to be submitted in the following format for Tax ID number known as CPF (format: 00000000000) so that the CPF number can be passed to the applicable carrier selected for electronic submission to customs in addition to being available on the package label itself for use by customs in the assessment of any duties/taxes due on shipment to be remitted by the package recipient.
Any questions on this process can be sent via email to internationalreturn@vitacost.com
Postal Dispatch Fee:
Effective August 2018, due to the increase in the volume of imported shipments, Correios Brasil will charge a Postal Dispatch fee on all packages. Previously, this fee was only charged on packages taxed by Brazilian customs. The Correios fee is R$15 per package and is subject to change at any time, without notice. Recipients can pay the shipping fee online by Boleto Bancário or credit card.
Q: What is the Postal Dispatch fee?
A: This charge is not an additional tax and/or delivery fee. The Correios de Despacho fee refers to the various services provided by Correios Brasil in the processing of shipments. This includes X-ray inspection, handling of prohibited objects, collection of taxes where applicable, providing the importer with information to clear shipments and other operations to maintain the standard of service.
Q: Are recipients notified of the Postal Dispatch fee?
A: No notification is sent to recipients by Correios Brasil. Vitacost will provide a tracking number for DHL Global Mail shipments. Within the DHL Global Mail tracking system, the secondary local post tracking number can be used to reference online payment with Correios Brasil. Please note that it may take 5-10 days after shipment to reflect secondary local postage tracking information.
Q: Is there a step-by-step guide on how to pay the Postal Dispatch fee? A: The Postal Dispatch fee can only be paid online. Information on how to pay this service fee can be found directly on the Correios Brasil website.
