Ingredient Restrictions:
The following substances are not allowed to be imported into Japan: Atomoxetine, Adrafinil, Aniracetam, Etiracetam, Oxiracetam, Dihydroergotoxine Mesilate, Somatropin, Vasopressin Tannate, Tianeptine, Desmopressin Acetate Hydrate, Nadolol, Nicergoline, Nimodipine, Nefiracetam, Vinpocetine, Piracetam, Furosemide, Bromocriotine Mesilate, Pramiracetam, Pregnenolone, Propranolol Hydrochloride, Levetiracetam. DHEA products, edible or drinkable products that contain Atenolol, kelp, hoodia, aloe (except aloe vera), vanilla, rice, grains, nuts, seeds, raw beans, products containing hemp, pet products, meat products (such as jerky and extracts), dairy products
Animal quarantine: Items containing animal products, including foods, baby foods, pet foods and beef jerky.
Plant quarantine: items containing plant material, including barley, beans, chia seeds, clay, flour, flowers, fresh/dried fruits, frozen fruit, ginseng, grain, green coffee, hay, herb, leaf, malt, moss, nuts, potpourri, quinoa, rice, seeds, soil, soil additive, spices, straw, tea (tea bags accepted), tobacco, vegetable, walnut, wheat and wood.
Order Limits:
Kelp exception: The only kelp product allowed for import into Japan is Sea Tangle Noodle Company, Kelp Noodles, 12 oz. (340 g). Customers are only allowed to order up to 5 kg. of this product per month (which equals about 14 bags).
A maximum of 22 lbs. (10 kg) per order of grocery or food items (including supplements and protein drinks) are allowed for personal import.
A maximum of 1-month supply of Estrogen (supplement) and 7-Keto/7-Keto DHEA can be imported at a time.
A maximum of 2-month supply is allowed for the following products or ingredients: Melatonin, Yohimbe, Potassium Iodine/Iodide, 5-HTP, Caffeine and Taurine. If an individual bottle contains more than a 2-month supply or multiple bottles are purchased, the items will be confiscated by customs.
The total quantity of cosmetic products (including shampoo and conditioner) allowed to be imported is 24 items per order.
No more than a 120-day supply of vitamins is allowed per order.
Duties & Taxes:
Import tax and duties will be imposed on orders with a total value exceeding ¥ 15,500. Orders with a total value exceeding ¥ 15,500 that contain raw honey products will be assessed an additional 50% custom’s duty.
Duties and taxes will be imposed by Japan Customs on any sugar or sweetener products (including maple syrup and agave nectar) regardless of weight or item value. If the total weight of sugar or sweetener products per order exceeds 2 lbs. (1 kg), duties and taxes will be imposed and additional documentation will be required by customs.
Vitacost.com cannot be held responsible for any laws or regulations that result in Customs applying additional costs to your order, including taxes, duties or other customs fees, or any related product seizure or delivery delays. Any order containing restricted items that is seized, damaged or destroyed by customs due to import regulations may not be eligible for refund under our Customs Seizure policy. Vitacost.com also reserves the right to limit quantity or restrict items to any country for any reason without notice.
