Did you know your skin is your greatest barrier against infection? In order to keep it healthy, it’s important to prevent dryness, by using the perfect natural products in the correct order! (Of course, there are also some habits you can adopt to prevent dry skin, too.)
Our very own Biancha Felix, digital analyst and beauty guru extraordinaire, recently shared her personal, step-by-step dry skin routine to showcase the cruelty-free, paraben-free and phthalate-free products that leave her skin feeling healthy, happy and hydrated. Ready? Let’s glow!
Biancha's Dry Skin Routine:
Step 1: Cleanser
A dry face means your skin is lacking moisture. Because of this, it’s important to use a cleanser that’s gentle and doesn’t strip the face even further. I like Alaffia’s Baobab Rooibos The Dry Skin Cleanser, which is made from baobab, rooibos, shea butter and other plant-based ingredients to improve dull, dry skin. Pro tip: Stay away from foaming cleansers! They irritate your skin and decrease its pH levels.
Step 2: Toner
Using a toner, such as tried-and-true Thayers Witch Hazel, is crucial because it helps tighten pores. This protects your pores from being clogged by airborne impurities you encounter during the day. After cleansing, I use a small cotton cloth to gently dab Thayers’ rose-infused aloe vera formula to close my pores. It’s an alcohol-free formula, making it a great toner alternative to drying astringents.
Step 3: Hydrating Serum
Vital to any skincare routine (especially for dryness), hydration is key. Use a serum to boost moisture levels to soften skin, soothe irritation and neutralize free radicals. MyChelle Dermaceuticals’ Ultra Hydrating Serum is light enough to prevent clogged pores. Plus, a little bit goes a long way. Just a couple small pumps provides a dewy glow every time! Lightly rub serum together using fingertips and gently smooth onto your face.
Step 4: Oil
A quality oil for your skin serves many purposes. In addition to locking in the nutrients and moisture you’ve absorbed from the previous steps, it also reduces the chance of wrinkles. I recommend an organic, cold-pressed oil, like Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating Rose Argan Oil, to ensure you’re using a super-pure formula. It’s rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids and proteins to help restore the appearance of your skin’s texture and tones. You can also use this oil to soothe dry elbows and heels! I rub it onto my face the same way I do the serum and follow it up with a moisturizer.
Step 5: Moisturizer
I’m a huge fan of Mineral Fusion’s Intense Hydration Facial Cream. It’s made with hyaluronic acid and prevents my skin from drying during the day. If you opt for another product, make sure it’s oil-based – not water-based, which dries out skin. If you take anything from this video, PLEASE avoid using body lotions for your face. They are NOT created equal and are often made with heavy ingredients and fragrances!
Step 6: Facial Mist
This is probably my favorite step of all! Wrap up your routine with a refreshing mist of rose water! Reviva Lab’s Natural Hydrating Facial Mist gives skin an extra pump of moisture that lasts all day. Plus, the scent is super relaxing! Keep in mind that when you’re tired, your skin looks tired! When I know I’m going to be out and about, I toss the bottle in my bag in case I need an extra spritz to get through the afternoon. After, you can either put on your makeup – or show off your au naturel, glowing look!
