Maple Syrup is distilled from the sap of organic Sugar Maple trees in springtime. It takes 40 gallons of pure sap to make one gallon of pure syrup. A good Sugar Maple tree is able to produce 1 to 2 quarts of pure maple syrup each season. Grade A Dark Color Maple Syrup (formerly Grade B) has a deeper, richer flavor than grade A light syrups.

Paleo Chocolate Sunflower Butter Protein Bars
Nut butter and chocolate is a classic combo loved by many a snacker. This recipe takes the fan-fave flavors, adds a protein punch and nixes refined sugar. Combine
sunflower butter, plant protein powder, nut-based flour and maple syrup, then layer with melted chocolate for seriously superior snacking. These paleo-friendly, swoon-worthy sunflower bars are a must try!
Paleo Chocolate Sunflower Butter Protein Bars
- 1 cup SunButter Sunflower Butter
- 1 scoop Nutiva Organic Plant Protein Superfood Smoothie Powder (vanilla or chocolate)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup (or honey, date syrup or monk fruit)
- 5 Tbsp. Bob’s Red Mill Paleo Flour
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp. Redmond Real Salt
Chocolate Layer
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (or more if desired)
- 1 tsp. Nutiva Refined Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp. SunButter Sunflower Butter
- In mixing bowl, combine sunflower butter, protein powder, maple syrup, flour, vanilla extract and salt; stir together until dough forms.
- Line 9x9-inch baking dish with parchment paper. Press dough across bottom of dish.
- In small sauce pan on low heat, combine chocolate chips, sunflower butter and coconut oil; stir until melted.
- Pour melted chocolate over dough and spread in even layer.
- Chill in freezer for 5 minutes or until chocolate sets. Gently slice into 8-12 bars, depending on preferred size.
