5 Embarrassing Health Issues, Solved!

Everyone has them: health issues so sensitive – so embarrassing – that you don’t want to mention them to your spouse, friends or even your healthcare provider. In many cases, there’s no need to worry. Help can be found easily online or in self-care books. Other times, these issues can be signs of bigger problems, and you’ll need to muster up the courage to seek professional care. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t wait. But for now, let’s take a look at some common health concerns and their solutions.

Embarrassing Health Problems, Solved

Blemishes & acne

Ever been in this situation? You’re at work, and you look in the mirror and see an inflamed bump smack in the middle of your face. You think, “Where did that come from? That blemish wasn’t there this morning!”

For the sudden appearance of acne, resist the urge to squeeze! Instead, dab on some rubbing alcohol to help dry out the blemish. When you get home, apply some Manuka honey and let it sit for at least 15 minutes before washing it off. Manuka honey is said to have particular cleansing properties, and it can be used as a face mask on a daily basis to promote blemish-free skin. Also be sure you’re getting enough of the mineral zinc, along with omega-3 fats from flax or fish oils.

Got gas?

Gas is probably top of the most-embarrassing health issues list. To keep intestinal gas at bay, you need to support the health of your digestive system. Begin with taking probiotics, which are friendly bacteria,  and try to avoid products that contain FOS (fructooligosaccharides). The FOS found in many probiotics can create more “fireworks” in the intestines, resulting in increased gas. FOS is a prebiotic (not to be confused with a probiotic), which means it helps “feed” good bacteria; but for some people, FOS can lead to flatulence. To further support the health of your digestive tract, eat a healthy, low-sugar diet.

Period problems

Do you feel angry and frustrated before your period? Like many women, you may experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and some of your behavioral changes and symptoms prior to your period may be embarrassing, especially if they’re directed at the wrong person, such as your boss! Supplements to support hormone balance may help to ease the aggravating mood changes associated with PMS. Look for natural, herbal formulas.

Puffy eyes

Puffy eyes often occur after you’ve slept a lot, and they may be the result of poor circulation. The problem also may indicate allergies, or water retention. To help support healthy circulation, make sure you exercise for 20 minutes at least four times a week. If you have allergies, support your immune system by with healthy lifestyle habits and a natural immune-support formula. For water retention, see your doctor to make sure you don’t have a kidney or heart problem.

Ditch the itch

Blotchy, red skin rashes can be not only unsightly but also embarrassing, especially if you’re constantly scratching and making the problem worse. If you experience frequent rashes, see a dermatologist for a thorough evaluation and diagnosis. Often steroid creams are prescribed, but beware: they may eliminate a rash, but they don’t treat the underlying causes. Consider what may be causing the rash by examining your diet and environment. You can also support your skin health by avoiding the most common food allergens. According to the National Institutes of Health, these including peanuts, eggs, milk, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish and tree nuts such as cashews and walnuts.
