As you might know, I recently had surgery to remove invasive Stage 4 endometriosis. Surgery is always tough and abdominal surgery is no walk in the park. Unluckily for me, I developed some severe complications and spent over a week in the hospital.
When I came home from the hospital, one of the hardest parts of my recovery was rebuilding my strength. I had no appetite, seriously, none. I was on intravenous antibiotics and taking high dose probiotics every day, but getting my appetite to kick back in was proving to be a real feat.
I had already learned the hard way, many years ago, that most protein shakes did not agree with my stomach. I’d tried them all; whey, soy, isolate, sugar-free, unsweetened and on and on. What I finally stumbled upon, and proved to be one of the key factors in my ability to get back on my feet during this very long recovery, was Orgain protein shakes.
I’m partial to the vegan vanilla, but the vegan chocolate is just as delicious. Created by Dr. Andrew Abraham who had fought, and beat, cancer in his teen years, and having been alarmed at the ingredients in the very meal replacements he was being told would help him survive, he set out to design a protein shake product that was organic, non-GMO and free from junky additives and preservatives. I know I sound like a commercial when I say it, but these are the only shakes my tummy can tolerate.
While Orgain does have a multitude of plant-based shakes and powders available, they also have a wide range of products from kid-friendly nutritional shakes to almond milk to hydration powders. All of these products meet the same high quality ingredient standards and have been somewhat of a lifeline for me lately.
I’m not in the clear yet, and I still have some health challenges and surgeries ahead of me, but I’m grateful to have found a nutritional supplement company that not only makes products that fit in line with my personal health and wellness goals, but happen to taste amazing. It’s not often I get that lucky.
