[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Have you heard of an 'everything shower'? If you spend any time on TikTok, you probably have: #everythingshower has almost 150 million views! But, while the term is popular, the concept is not entirely new. At its core, it’s a long, luxurious shower that combines a variety of self-care and grooming activities.
But, the twist, and probably one of the reasons the concept is so popular these days, is that in addition to cleansing, it involves a shower or bath where you intentionally focus on cleansing not only your body but also your mind, soul and spirit. As a result of this intention, advocates report that an everything shower can provide benefits such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep, boosting your mood and detoxifying your body.
Also, while it is a luxury, it’s something that everyone can afford to do. Lastly, it’s also time efficient because it helps you combine many of the self-care activities you may already be doing, such as shaving and
exfoliating, into one comprehensive weekly routine. The concept is to indulge in a relaxing, therapeutic ritual to recharge, cleanse and rejuvenate yourself. Friday night at the end of the work week or Sunday night before one are two ideal times to make time for this indulgent ritual. However, you can do it when needed and as often as you like.
How Do I Take an Everything Shower?
If you scroll through TikTok, you’ll get many suggestions and ideas. But it’s not a great idea to get sucked into mindlessly scrolling through this social media app when you could be enjoying a hot shower, washing your stressful day away. One popular way to get the most out of your bathing session is to divide this comprehensive cleanse into three parts: a prep routine, the actual shower and a post-shower ritual.
The prep or pre-shower routine
Here are some suggestions to help you get ready and the most out of your everything shower experience. Do what feels right for you with the products you have on hand.
- Set the mood with calming music and lighting candles
- Use essential oils
- Lay out your self-grooming and self-care products
- Lay out a fluffy robe and comfy slippers for after the shower
- Turn on the water so that it’s warm when you step into the shower
- If a face or hair mask is part of your routine, you may want to slather it on before the shower, especially if it’s a product that needs time to sit on your skin or hair
The shower!
Experts recommend not making your shower too hot or too, too long. Hot water and even warm water for long periods of time can strip your skin of vital oils, leaving your skin dry and red. One option is to alternate between hot and cold water to stimulate circulation. Now that you’ve set the temperature, what do you do in the shower? Here are a variety of activities you can do in your shower. Feel free to pick and choose what works for you.
- Cleanse your body with natural products that contain essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus
- Use a cleansing shampoo to get rid of product buildup
- Shampoo and condition your hair with moisturizing and nourishing products
- Apply a hair mask (if you didn’t apply one earlier) or deep conditioner
- Rub in a lip scrub
- Exfoliate with a loofah or body scrub
- Shave
- Wash your face
- Practice mindfulness by paying attention to the sensations of the water on your skin, the smell of the aromatherapy and the sounds of the music
- Relax
- Rinse with cold water to invigorate your body
Some experts recommend following a specific order, such as shaving after you exfoliate or washing your face at the end, but, again, it’s up to you to do what feels comfortable and relaxing.
After the shower
Pat yourself dry so you’re not dripping on the floor but don’t fully dry your body. Then, slather on
moisturizer – on your body, feet, lips, etc. Appling moisturizer to damp skin locks in the moisture. When you’re ready, wrap yourself in a comfy robe. Some people apply a
face mask after their face is clean, so that’s an option.
Finish off with your regular nightly routine, whether that’s brushing your teeth or your hair if you’re going straight to bed. Or treat yourself to a glass of wine or tea and veg out on the couch reading or watching your favorite series to make the whole night about relaxation and rejuvenation.
This routine may sound overwhelming, but you don’t have to perform all the rituals or use all the products. In fact, if it’s overwhelming, you’re doing it wrong. Experts recommend not doing such a comprehensive routine too often because many practices, such as exfoliation, should only be done once a week, or you risk irritating your skin instead of soothing your soul. Also, a special routine loses its specialness if done daily or too often.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title="Featured Products" border_width="2"][vc_row_inner equal_height="yes" content_placement="middle" gap="35"][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="166261" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" css=".vc_custom_1682112399938{padding-right: 7% !important;padding-left: 7% !important;}" link="https://www.vitacost.com/weleda-aroma-essentials-energy-shower-gel"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="166263" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" css=".vc_custom_1682112423384{padding-right: 7% !important;padding-left: 7% !important;}" link="https://www.vitacost.com/aura-cacia-aromatherapy-shower-tablets-relaxing-lavender"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="166262" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" css=".vc_custom_1682112451494{padding-right: 7% !important;padding-left: 7% !important;}" link="https://www.vitacost.com/sheamoisture-pink-himalayan-salt-relaxing-shower-steamers-with-shea-butter"][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
