If you’re a regular in the gym, you’ve discovered through trial and error what you can’t work out without. You’ve learned that hair ties break, blood sugar dips and your memory isn’t as reliable as you thought. Don’t let little snags stop you from a good sweat! Keeping a gym bag stocked with the right items will help you stick to a routine and get the most out of a workout. Wondering what to bring to the gym? The below list is a solid place to start.
What to Bring to the Gym
1. Pre-workout powder
This is a number one must-have in your gym bag. Whether your workout is early morning, mid-day or post workday, having a good
pre-workout drink to boost energy and focus are essential. My top choice is a convenient-to-carry product such as
Garden of Life’s clean, plant–based, organic and sugar-free single packets. Toss into a gym bag and easily add to any water bottle 20 minutes before a workout.
2. Notebook
The best way to keep track of your workouts and progress is by writing everything down in a
journal. Write down your plan in the front of your journal broken down by day and exercises. There’s nothing worse than getting ready for your workout and wasting time trying to recall what exercises you did at your last workout, how much weight you used, how many reps and how much time you spend on cardio. Log your notes while you rest between sets or immediately after your workouts. This way when your next workout session begins you can jump right into the workout.
3. Hair ties
For gym-goers with long
hair, these are essential!
Scunci hair ties will help you avoid having to use a rubber band from the front desk (ouch!), and you may make friends who appreciate that you carry extra hair ties when they forget theirs. A pack of Scunci hair ties take up almost no room in a gym bag and won’t cause damage to your hair.
4. Snacks
Another important item that won’t take up a lot of space is a quick, convenient
snack to keep you fueled for your workout. Keeping a high-quality
protein bar such as
RXBAR, which has limited ingredients, or a
trail mix pack like
Daily Nuts & Fruits (or even a
homemade pack) are perfect to snack on pre/post workout. Another suggest snack is
Black Forest Organic Gummy Bears. These are good for a quick pick-me-up if your blood sugar dips.
5. Face mist (toner)
I love a nice face mist to use during and after a workout. Thayers Witch Hazel Toner Facial Mist is my favorite because it’s alcohol-free, helps protect skin from impurities, has a cooling effect and isn’t sticky. The bottle can be easily tossed in a gym bag and spritzed whenever you need it – especially during a cardio session!
