Matcha originated in China, but it has a rich history in Japanese culture. Like other green tea, matcha comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. Its growing process gives it a unique twist. Matcha’s leaves are covered for 20 to 30 days before harvest, which enhances chlorophyll production, boosts antioxidants, and gives the plant a darker green color. The leaves are ground into a fine powder — matcha literally means “finely powdered tea.”

Whip up a frothy matcha latte with your favorite milk variety.

Our Organic Matcha Tea is a culinary grade matcha. It makes a delicious tea and is often used in cooking and baking. Culinary grade matcha is a very high-quality tea, with a slightly different flavor profile than ceremonial grade matcha. Culinary grade matcha isn’t necessarily a lower quality product than ceremonial grade matcha either, it’s just prepared differently for a different use – and it features different characteristics. It has a more robust flavor than ceremonial grade matcha, is slightly less sweet, with more bitter notes.

Matcha tastes delicious as an iced tea, the traditional hot tea, and makes wonderful green tea lattes and matcha smoothies. Its enhanced flavor profile pairs perfectly with other flavors, and it is a versatile ingredient commonly used in a variety of sweets and baked good recipes, including ice cream, pies, mousse, cupcakes, shortbread cookies, and pancakes.
