Is your wine glass empty? That’s okay. The health benefits of grapes come in a different screw-top bottle. This one is much smaller and is full of potent, flavorless capsules, carefully formulated by the nutrition company Polyphenolics. While you may miss the mid-morning tastings and scenic drive through California’s countryside, you won’t miss out on any of those precious grape seed benefits from polyphenols. Polyphenolics makes sure of that. As a division of Constellation Brands, one of the largest premium wine companies in the world, Polyphenolics has access to a vast supply of California grapes. But the vineyards are only the beginning. Here’s the grape-big story in full…
What is grape seed extract anyway?
As you may be able to guess, grape seed extract is a derivative of grape seeds. In the seeds, you can find high concentrations of vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid and oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes (OPCs). Flavonoids and OPCs are classified as polyphenols with antioxidant power.
In Polyphenolics’ flagship MegaNatural®-BP™, the grape seed extract is standardized to 90% polyphenols. That’s why it was the preferred choice for formulating ROOT2 MegaNatural®-BP™ Grape Seed Extract capsules.
Why is California the best place to source grape seed extract?
Because of California’s rich environment for producing wine, it’s a no-brainer for sourcing grape seed extract. The skin and seeds of wine grapes are byproducts of wine production, anyway. Cultivating the seeds for a potent supplement formula is one way to reduce waste and utilize the full potential of the fruit.
Polyphenolics is lucky to have access to California’s Central Valley and its abundant supply of fresh wine grapes. Under the umbrella of Constellation Brands, we’re part of the largest winery in the country with the capability to process 250,000 tons of grapes.
What are grape seed extract’s benefits and primary uses?
MegaNatural®-BP™ Grape Seed Extract has been scientifically studied in three human clinical trials to date. In these studies, it has been shown that MegaNatural®-BP™ Grape Seed Extract supports cardiovascular health, as well as blood flow and healthy blood pressure already within normal range.†
Polyphenolics’ grape seed extracts are 100% water-soluble, meaning they can be added easily to liquid without precipitating out of the solution. That’s why you may also find MegaNatural®-BP™ in functional foods and beverages.
How does your cultivation and production of grape seed extract stand above the rest?
In our mission to realize the benefits of grapes, Polyphenolics has secured full transparency in its production process. MegaNatural®-BP™ grape seed extracts are traceable to the exact California vineyard from which they were grown. In addition to that, our extraction process holds four patents.
MegaNatural®-BP™ is extracted through its patented hot-water-based process to yield a higher percentage of lower molecular weight polyphenols. This simply translates to a more bioavailable nutrient. Polyphenolics has invested in intensive research in order to create the process that captures such a nutritionally rich grape seed extract. This process is the reason we can guarantee 90-95% total polyphenols – the biologically active components of grape seeds.
In addition to traceability, transparency and bioavailability, Polyphenolics maintains sustainable agricultural practices where all parts of the grape are utilized. The grape juice becomes wine, the unfermented grape seeds are used to make MegaNatural®-BP™ and the grape skins and pulp provide raw materials for formulating grape pomace extract (another Polyphenolics nutrition supplement). Polyphenolics and Constellation Brands have also implemented the use of solar power to generate electricity needed to operate our facilities.
Since our inception in 1996, we’ve been dedicated to rigorously testing MegaNatural®-BP™ for heavy metals, pesticides and contaminants. MegaNatural®-BP™ has earned GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status, is non-toxic and free of side effects, according to a number of clinical and safety studies.
